"Hot" Health IT for 2009
Link: Healthcare IT News
In an annual survey conducted by Healthcare IT News, e-Prescribing and computerized patient records (EMRs, PHRs, EHRs) were among the top choices for healthcare IT in the coming year. It is interesting to note there was special mention of the EHR solutions provided by Microsoft (HealthVault), Google (Google Health), and Allscripts as a few of the top choices.
An interesting point about the choice of Google Health as an EHR/EMR/PHR is the fact that it is a "cloud computing solution" which means that the records reside at a secure site on the internet and are accessible anywhere, anytime, by only those people who are authorized to see them.
- For an individual, this means convenience.
- For a practice, this means lower technology/infrastructure costs.
- For both, it means more and better information to those who need it.
- Better information will lead to better decisions and the hope for improved patient health and healthcare outcomes.
